What Does a Full-Service Wedding Florist Actually Do on the Big Day?

Wedding days are wonderfully busy, and flowers play a special role in bringing your vision to life. You’ve probably seen beautiful bouquets and centrepieces — but have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes?

Here’s a peek into what a full-service wedding florist does on your big day.

Once at the venue, your florist will:

  • Deliver the personal flowers in water to ensure they are tip top the moment you stride down the aisle

  • Arrange ceremony flowers

  • Style entrance displays

  • Create tablescapes

  • Install feature pieces

It’s all done with a mindful eye for balance, proportion and how flowers interact with your space.

Before the big day

Liaising with suppliers to ensure the blooms to match your colour scheme are confirmed and heading my way for the week of your wedding- (some take a few days to open and be at their very best). Going to flower wholesalers and growers to literally pick the stems I am going to be using gives me so much joy to see the planning start to bloom in front of my very eyes.

Wedding flowers are handled with care long before the first guest arrives. Stems are conditioned and prepared so they arrive looking fresh and vibrant. Great flowers start with careful preparation — and this can take place well before the day itself.

Building and transporting designs

Large or statement arrangements are often assembled on site. The components are transported carefully to venue locations. This is where experience really matters — ensuring everything arrives perfectly and on time.

Repurposing and thoughtful placement

Many couples choose to repurpose ceremony flowers into their reception — this is good for your budget and brings continuity to your day.

Day-of support

Being on site means we can handle the unexpected, adjust displays if needed, and ensure your flowers look their best from start to finish. I am also a dab hand at putting linen on tables, assisting cake decoration, attaching buttonholes to any guests having trouble (they are tricky to put on yourself!) as well as throwing confetti and helping your coordination team at the venue. My motto is One Team, One Dream… we are all working hard for a seamless day- and if I am also needed to jump in to a non-floral request- I will do it.

At Flowers by Helen Elizabeth, full-service wedding floristry begins with a minimum spend of £2,500 before VAT and delivery, so we can deliver the level of service and detail your celebration deserves.

If you’re curious about how this works for your wedding, please do drop me an email — I’m always happy to talk through your ideas.
