How Much Should You Budget for Wedding Flowers? (A Florist’s View)

You’re engaged! What an exciting moment! One of the questions I’m often asked early in planning is: how much should we budget for wedding flowers?

It’s a great question, and the answer really depends on your celebration, venue and the kind of floral experience you’d love on your big day.

What goes into a wedding flower budget?

When I plan wedding flowers, I’m not just thinking about bouquets. I’m thinking about the full picture — from ceremony arrangements to reception styling and how everything flows together seamlessly. Every stem is chosen with careful thought, and the design is tailored to your colour palette, venue and vision.

Important things that influence cost include:

  • The scale of your venue and floral design

  • Seasonality and availability of flowers

  • Details such as table arrangements, arches or installations

  • On-site styling and repurposing of designs throughout the day

 A good rule of thumb

For beautifully considered, bespoke wedding flower design, our services start from £2,500 before VAT and delivery. This ensures we can craft a cohesive floral experience — from bridal bouquets to carefully styled ceremony and reception flowers.

This isn’t just about flowers, it’s about creating atmosphere and thoughtful details that make your day truly memorable.

Tips for planning your budget

  • In the first instance- speak to your florist (hopefully me!)- about costs for ALL items that you need a quote for- and options of two or three different designs for the same space (e.g. for the ceremony space- an arch of flowers, as well as pillars of flowers, as well as milk churn displays) that way you have all available options when you are first planning.

  • Start with a clear idea of your venue space. When you first visit venues you are looking at whether the capacity is correct, the location fits with you and your guests, whether there is accommodation for those travelling a distance- can you see yourself getting married here? Once you have chosen your venue for the big day, my advice would be go back to your chosen venue and then look at it with decorations in mind-is there a big expanse of wall that is crying out for a big installation? Is there a beam with a chandelier on it that we can suspend some florals too? Are there huge barrels in the foyer that could house some stonking great displays to wow your guests?

  • Think about the feel you want — romantic and abundant, simple and elegant, or a mix of both- provide as many samples images to your florist as possible that have taken your eye so far. I can then advise on what may be in season, and what may need to be substituted. Trying to get daffodils in September may be a stretch! I can always set expectations on how far your budget will go according to how many items you require, and suggests areas that can have a less choice selection (but still lovely) to match the colour scheme, while still looking lovely and cohesive to the theme.

  • Don’t forget repurposing — moving flowers between ceremony and reception makes a big difference- If you are having a church ceremony first- are there areas that your church flowers can be carried over to?

I have decorated SO many venues and churches in the local area- I am more than happy to help by suggesting what items can double up and be repurposed. Planning your flowers should be a joyful part of your wedding journey, and I’m here to help you every step of the way.
